I am huge horselover! But unfortuantely my family cannot afford to care for one. I know there are grants that help reach dreams for people like me but i cannot find one… :( Do you know of any?? My dads work is not doing well but i would give everything to have a horse. The initial cost is fine but the vet care and boarding is what i could really use support for. Thanks for any help (:

Haven’t heard of horse grants but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. What I have heard of is people working at a lesson barn for free lessons. That might be a good starting point for you and help you find the right horse and situation.

    heres your options..
    1. take lessons
    2.lease a horse
    3. volunteer at barns
** if you end up getting a horse, and don’t have the money to pay for vet bills, worming , farrier every 6 weeks, board, blankets, feed, hay , bedding, supplements, etc.. What are you going to do with the horse, can’t just sell it , how do you know someones gonna take it?

Grants are only given to non-profit organizations – individuals cannot get a grant.

Your best bet is to start taking lessons on school horses, then maybe a half or full lease on a horse. This will help keep costs down and still give you riding time.

If you continue to progress and start showing and winning ribbons, it is possible that a local tack store or horse feed company will want to sponsor you in return for you promoting their product.

Otherwise, like many of us who were horse crazy kids, you just may have to wait until you grow up and can afford your own horse. I didn’t start riding until I was in my 30′s and bought my first horse at age 40. It was worth the wait.

You can work it off at a barn.
I volunteer at a horse rescue and get my board for free including grain. All i have to pay for is feet $30 and vet bills once a year.

Lemme know how that works out for you……I could use a couple ‘grants’

you should see if you can exchange work for riding horses at a local stable. Then you don’t have to pay any of the associated bills. When you can afford a horse, then buy one.
