How to Create a Vision Board

To start out with, a vision board is a large poster board that you can paste images on from the Internet or magazines. It is actually quite a simple concept, but it gives you a real and tangible board with images of the goals you want to aspire to, who you want to become, places you would like to live, or other interests that motivate you. It really is that simple.

So why use a vision board?

This is your opportunity to more than put your goals down on paper, but to have a legitimate picture of the direction that you want your life to go in. This is something that can be used if you feel listless, frustrated, or unable to achieve your goals. As an example, someone may use a vision board for the direction they would like to go in their career. If you are interested in starting your own business, you can create a vision board about independent entrepreneurs, successful online businesses, or even the niche market of business that you hope to succeed in. If you are hoping to lose weight and stick to a healthy diet, your vision board can be of healthy bodies, exercises, and the nutritional foods that you hope to eat.

What you will need to create a vision board is a large poster board, magazines or the Internet, and glue. This is a very simple project that will bring you back to your roots as a child, but it works therapeutically to help you clearly understand your goals and life direction. In fact, what many people find when they create a vision board is that they did not have a full understanding of what they wanted to achieve or even what their interests were. This is your opportunity to tap into your dreams and put them all down on paper!

The best way to begin in creating your vision board is by asking what you want out of life. Again, there is no right or wrong answer, and the answer may only be one word. Otherwise, you may have pictures come into your head, such as meeting the perfect spouse, traveling through Europe, or even having a less busy schedule to spend time with your children. This is an entirely personal experience, and you can begin by cutting out pictures from magazines to create your vision on paper.

Start the project by cutting out all of the images that speak to you about your vision, go through the images to edit them so that they are more streamlined, and begin to glue them onto the board. You may also want to add captions or writing on the board to fully express your vision. Lastly, you can leave a space in the center of the board to put a picture of yourself. Finish the project by keeping your vision board in a place where you will see it daily, such as your kitchen, bedroom, or home office. This is your springboard toward inspiration!
